Any answers

Sometime back I and my best buddy Thomas were travelling to Chennai from Kerala. We were talking about usual topics like our family, about work, Chennai life, movies, old hostel \college days, chicks etc. We happened to talk about this

Me: Thoma how’s work.
Thom: Going great da. We have a very good team, organization culture and all. I’m into a good project since I joined here. Salary also good compared to most of the other firms. So everything is going superb and cool at my side. Hey if any of your friends looking to switch job do let me know.
Me: wow, that’s great. So good to hear that buddy
Thom: But I have to add this point also. Unless we switch our job there won’t be much difference in our salary structure. I have got lot of offers from my management to stay back. Let me see how is my appraisal this month, and then I will take a decision. Anyways I’m keeping my fingers crossed

After a while a co passenger befriended with us, who also happened to be a Software Engineer working with a Top multi national firm. His CTC was a bit low compared to ours (though not that bad to say).Without wasting any time Thomas asked him to send his CV to his ID and with in minutes he forwarded the same.
This incident made me a think a lot. Like what we want in our life. A good job? , fat pay check? , Part of a good team and low pressure at work? Part of an organization which offer a very good career growth?. What will help us to be satisfied. Will there be a saturation point? Don’t we have an end point for our needs? .I doesn’t have answer for any of these questions. Usually I’m not a person who thinks or care about all these stuffs. But at times when some one asks me about all these or when I have conversations like this, I really don’t have a convincing answer.

P.S : Happy Vishu \Tamil new year to all

Giving the ‘bread & butter’ questions of life a thought once in a while isn’t all that bad 😉
Though I believe working in a friendly environment definitely makes life easier and working an enjoyable experience 🙂

When you work well, good money and success shall follow on it’s own 🙂

    Cheers!!

When you work well, good money and success shall follow on it’s own My question is not about success and good money chatterbox….Like, most of us are having both of that even at this young age.But we are confused what is our ultimate goal and what we need in our life 😦

Happy new Year to u too Anish 🙂
I dnt think there is a standard answer to this qs .. priorities, needs change in life and depending on that, what we expect from our job .. may be money @ one time, the distance to workplace might matter the most @ other times. Its gr8 if we cn get some all-in-1 offer. If nt, what matters to me most is the kind of work .. I am very particular abt my domain and also the work atmosphere!

we might say we want good job, good location, good work environment but if we our honest to ourselves we know that it is money which does the final trick!! Had that not been the case many of us would have left our jobs and would have been busy chasing our dreams!!!

Interesting, Anish. I generally believe in Maslows hierarchy of needs. Works right for most people.

Thats a good question you’ve raised Anish !!!

And for every person it is different. While some crave for a satisfying job, there are others who are more worried abt the pay-check.

Its always wanting what is not there !!! Thats human tendency. Its only a few, who think out of this box.

Yeah… the grass seems to be greener always on the other side of the fence! When we have a satisfying job, we think salary is more important. When stress at work shoots up.. we feel work life effectiveness is the most important thing! …and it goes on and on! The fact is none of us exactly know what we want in life!

What do u say to a good manager who in interested in ur growth and development in ur career and not selfish enough to pin u down under him for his better appraisals and promotions!! me thinks a good manager is the best bet to a job…. or be the manager or else start a company and head it urself..

but satisfaction is elusive as always, we are human beings after all not animals of the animal kingdom!!

That was a very good answer PNA…But you should think twice before you start a company(may be unless you don’t wanna enjoy your life 🙂 )
